da prosport bet: Glasgow Rangers appointed Stig Inge Bjørnebye as their new football consultant and advisor for a short-term period of six months to help the board and Danny Rohl with transfers and squad building.

da fazobetai: The Light Blues needed a transfer specialist at Ibrox after they decided to part ways with both sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart.

Bjørnebye could be a busy man, alongside Andrew Cavanagh and Rohl, when the January transfer window opens for business as there are a lot of big decisions to be made.

Rangers lining up move for new midfielder

Nicolas Raskin has been touted with a move away from Ibrox in recent weeks and the club are reportedly looking at a star who could replace him in the middle of the park.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to French outlet Peuple Vert, Glasgow Rangers are one of the clubs lining up a move to sign free agent central midfielder Pierre Ekwah in the January transfer window, as Bjørnebye looks to help Rohl with his first signings.

The report claims that the Light Blues and Udinese are both interested in a deal for the Frenchman, but it is a complex situation that could make it a difficult deal to do.

Saint-Etienne took up their option to sign him permanently from Sunderland in the summer, despite being relegated to Ligue 2, and the player refused to complete the move, ripping up his contract.

The French side are in the midst of a legal conflict over that situation, with a hearing set for 2026, which means that it remains to be seen whether or not Rangers will be able to snap him up for nothing in January, as it may depend on the outcome of that hearing.

Why Rangers should sell Nicolas Raskin

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur were linked with interest in Raskin earlier this month, and the new Rangers consultant, Bjørnebye, should sign Ekwah to allow the Belgium international to leave.

Raskin has scored six goals and provided 16 assists as a central midfielder since the start of last season, per Sofascore, which shows that he offers an attacking threat from midfield, but the Belgian star has also won 55% of his duels in the Scottish Premiership this term.

He can be an excellent box-to-box player at his best, as evidenced by those statistics, but his best has not been seen enough on the pitch in recent months.

Journalist Jonny McFarlane stated that Raskin “has been really poor” of late and noted that Hearts midfielder Cammy Devlin “dominated” him at Tynecastle on Sunday.

It may, therefore, be the right time to cash in on the central midfielder, who is in ‘poor’ form, because Spurs are interested and could provide Rangers with funds to reinvest in their squad in January by signing Raskin.

The former Standard Liege star has started 13 of his 15 league appearances for the Gers this season, though, which means that Bjørnebye will need to sign a midfielder to replace him for this deal to make sense.

That is why this interest in Ekwah is key because signing the former Championship star would provide Rohl with the midfield enforcer that he will need without Raskin in the squad, allowing the club to sanction a January sale for the Belgian.

As you can see in the table above, Ekwah’s form in Ligue 1, whilst on loan at Saint-Etienne, suggests that he has the physical and defensive attributes to be an excellent replacement, and possible upgrade, in midfield.

The left-footed star, who was described as “powerful” by journalist Josh Bunting, could be an ideal player to dominate the midfield for Rohl with his aggressive defensive play, winning the majority of his duels on the deck and in the air.

Signing the 23-year-old star on a free transfer next month would, therefore, allow the Gers to cash in on Raskin, amid interest from Spurs, as he has the quality to ensure that the Scottish giants do not miss the Belgian at all.

However, they may have to wait for the outcome of the hearing on his contractual situation with the Ligue 2 side, which could impact how quickly Rangers are able to get a deal done for him next month.
