Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is hoping that his old team mate Gareth Bale will follow suit and change North London for Madrid this summer, as reported by Sky Sports.

The Real Madrid playmaker joined the Spanish club last summer from Spurs and has enjoyed a decent first season in La Liga, becoming a key man in Joe Mourinho’s side in the final few months.

Modric believes that Real is the perfect place for Bale to improve even more than he has over the past 18 months as Madrid look set to make an £80million bid for the Welsh winger.

The Croatian midfield man has said he wants to stay at Madrid despite Mourinho leaving and when a new boss finally arrives, Modric expects Bale to join him.

“It is a complicated issue for me because I was at Tottenham with him. I can tell you that we’re friends and that he is an exceptional player. Modric told Spanish paper Marca.

“A club like Real Madrid, Tottenham or anyone else can only benefit from having a player like that.

“If he signs or not is a matter for the clubs, but if he ends up at Real Madrid that can only be good for us.

“As Real Madrid is a team of stars, Bale would fit perfectly. He would give us a different dimension. He can shoot, has strength and speed and is the type of player who could help us take a step forward.”
