Sunderland have looked short of quality and desire this season but one man who has both of those attributes in abundance is Lynden Gooch.
He has spent the majority of Phil Parkinson’s reign on the sidelines due to injury but he hasn’t taken long to get back up to speed since his return, and the match against Doncaster epitomised exactly what he offers this Black Cats side.
Parkinson would have been delighted with his team’s efforts as they clinched a first win in 10 games, stretching their unbeaten run to three games.

Gooch played a huge role in picking up the three points at the Keepmoat Stadium as he unleashed a terrific curling strike from outside the area, finding the top corner to give the away side the lead and impress many fans in doing so.
Sunderland now look a more settle side with Gooch and Charlie Wyke in attack, who also came close to scoring, and if additions are made in January there could be a chance to challenge higher up the league.
Parkinson’s 5-2-3 system is reaping rewards and there is still a spirit in the camp of not giving up, as heads could have dropped after Jon Taylor’s equaliser for Rovers.
Whose Line Is It Anyway: Michael Owen, Garth Crooks or Mark Lawrenson?
Gooch could be a pivotal player if he remains fit until the end of the season, and supporters certainly appreciate the difference the 24-year-old makes to their team, as well as his importance to the attack.
Gooch has taken the place of Aiden McGeady in the side, and if he keeps up his form the Irishman may not be missed, but have the club made the right decision to transfer list the winger?
